Code of Conduct and Disclaimer

Lepidopterists' Society Code of Conduct and Disclaimer

The Lepidopterists’ Society is dedicated to a safe, hospitable, and productive environment for everyone attending our events, and consideration and respect is expected in speech and actions. All attendees, members, speakers, vendors, staff, and volunteers should refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. This includes offensive gestures or verbal comments; the sending or sharing of offensive images, videos, emails, texts, or voicemails; deliberate intimidation; stalking, following, harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

The Society may take any action it deems appropriate in dealing with an event participant who engages in demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior, ranging from a simple warning to the offender to expulsion from any Society sponsored events and loss of membership in the Society.

If you are being harassed, if you notice that someone else is being harassed, or if you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Society’s designated ombudsperson and/or officers, who will work with the appropriate Society leadership to resolve the situation. All complaints will be treated seriously and responded to promptly. The designated ombudsperson will always be identified by name in the event's program book or on-line meeting website, along with their contact information. If you feel unsafe, these Society representatives will assist you to contact venue security or local law enforcement, if you so desire. Our goal is for all participants to feel safe at our events.

The Lepidopterists’ Society shall not be responsible for any defamatory, offensive, or illegal conduct of function participants, and shall not be held liable for personal injury, property damage, theft or damage of any kind suffered by the participants at or in connection with society functions. By registering for and attending any society functions or events associated with society functions, each participant acknowledges that they have read this Policy and Disclaimer, and expressly releases the Society and its officers, employees, volunteers, or agents from liability in connection with Society functions.
