The Northern Hotel
The 71st Annual Meeting of the Lepidopterists’ Society is being held at the historical Northern Hotel in Billings, Montana. We have obtained a special room rate for the LepSoc meeting, which can be reserved by calling the hotel at 406-867-6767 and letting them know you are attending the Lepidopterists’ Society meeting. Special meeting room rates are as follows (Rooms are subject to an 8% Bed Tax and $2 fee, there is no sales tax in Montana):
- $174, Classic King or Queen Room, single or double occupancy

There are many other hotels available in and near Billings with a variety of prices. However, keep in mind this is peak tourist season so book early!

There are also many camping options in the area, ranging from RV parks to KOAs to State Parks. Again, book early!
NEW! Field Trips
We have been working hard to organize "official" field trips for several days before, during, and after the meeting. The following trips will be led by various members of the Society and local volunteers. Please note that field trip locations will NOT require 4x4 vehicles, although there are great collecting locations you can go on your own if you have a 4x4. For these trips we will be carpooling but should have enough transportation for people who do not have their own car or a rental. If you know you will need transportation, please let us know (see below). For moth collectors/watchers, keep in mind that it does not get dark until very late this far North in July!
Wednesday, 19 July, Butterfly collector and watcher/photographer trip: Meet in the lobby of the hotel at 8am. We will be going to the same location, but collectors and watchers/photographers will be heading up different trails. This location might be approximately an hour from Billings, but we will be back in plenty of time for the reception Wednesday night.
Wednesday, 19 July, Moth collector and watcher/photographer trips: Meet in the lobby after the reception (exact time TBA later), we will be going to a couple different locations relatively close to the hotel for both photographers and collectors. Also the option for a slightly farther location for collectors.
Friday, 21 July, Moth collector and watcher/photographer trips: We will have sheets set up at the BBQ location (Montana Audubon Center, just south of the Yellowstone River). We have permission to stay at this location after the BBQ is officially over for mothing fun!
Saturday, 22 July, Potential butterfly short/local day trip: [This depends on the meeting schedule and the scientific program. A decision about a day trip on Saturday won't be made until mid-June.]
Saturday, 22 July, Moth collector trip: If you haven't had enough moths yet, we will be heading out somewhere after the banquet. We're still deciding on sites, but it will be somewhere unique with great habitat.
Sunday, 23 July, Butterfly collector and watcher/photographer trip: Although the meeting program officially ends on Saturday, we will be spending one more day visiting probably the most exciting butterfly location of the week, the high elevations of the Beartooth Plateau! We will head along US-212 past Red Lodge to the base of Hellroaring Road, Rock Creek, and probably all the way into Wyoming. This will be an all-day trip, meet in the lobby of the hotel at 8am. Many of us will not be returning to Billings but if you need to return we will make sure that is possible. Don't miss this trip!
